This is an outreach activity of the department in collaboration with the Population Health & Research Institute, an NGO and initiated in 2018. We are screening both urban and rural population of Thiruvananthapuram District; all adult above the age of 19 are screened using a structured questionnaire, which include items of demographic, anthropometric measures, morbidity pattern ( Hypertension, DLP, DM, Hypothyroidism, Bronchial Asthma, , Cancer, Tuberculosis) and any other significant illness among the study population .Liver stiffness was evaluated by fibro scan/fibro touch to measure the median stiffness and fat content in the liver. Blood biochemistry, physical activity, nutrition evaluation, anxiety and depression, body compositions were also evaluated. Based on the values of liver stiffness, all subjects were provided with appropriate advice and referred for further testing. The findings from the study (Scarred liver in Thiruvananthapuram were presented at the National Conference of INASL at Bhubaneswar and was awarded the Second Prize in the poster session.
